The wiring is pretty complex on our Deluxe Players. I was looking into making a few simple mods, and found out that I would have to re-wire the guitar to a standard config...and do away with the push button switch...to do the mods. So...I didn't do them, just left the guitar alone.
The guitar DOES sing! I have really been enjoying it at home and on stage. And, I REALLY love the Vintage Noiseless pickups. Nothing bothers me more than that 60 cycle hum that a lot of single-coil guitars have...and this guitar is quiet! True, the pups arent as lively or loud as some, but I make up for that with my amp settings! I use a Hot Rod Deluxe, so I get a pretty kickin clean tone.
Our guitar is not very popular, it just hasnt caught on. I'm actually surprised they still make it! And I think the only other guitar that uses our pup is the Clapton, so there just arent many 'extra' noisless pups laying around. So your tech has to order one from Fender, and that could take a little while. But it will be worth it to have your guitar working properly.

Good luck and keep us posted with your progress!

Hey- Actually got some pretty good news from Fender- called Consumer Relations, and was real pleased to find that the pups were available and would be on their way the next day (had I needed N3s, like the rep. initially thought, it might have been a different story). Gotta pass on the word, though, that I have NO complaints with the way the rep. (Steve) handled the issue- top shelf service that helps me to continue bein' a Fender devotee...
I'm w/you, MrM., regarding the pups, and the Dlx Plyr overall. What first caught my eye was the Ash body, but the extra versatility afforded by the push switch helped seal the deal. I'm just starting to play again after a long hiatus, so I'm trying to get as much pop for my peso as I can. Also, since my playing-out days are likely long gone, I"ll probably only ever play around the house, where that 60 cycle hum could be a real drag. Was a time when I woulda found the idea of buying a guitar sight-unseen laughable, but- assuming my glitches get sorted out (I'm confident they will), this could be pretty much the guitar of my dreams. Of course, there's still that Daphne Blue Classic '50s at the shop near my job that keeps callin' my name...

Hey- Got the guitar back yesterday (mini-NGD?)- and DetroitBlues, you called it- open coil in the neck pickup. Tone pots work properly, no loss in output, nice round tone in pos. 5. Lovin' it. Almost seems like the guitar's tone has changed a little across the board- might try Mr. Majstyk's suggestion and lower the pups. Anyway, all's well that ends well- thanks to all, and by the way, should anybody need a top-shelf tech service in North Jersey/NYC area, I've got the guy for you...
