That's ridiculous. The wiring is not so complicated that a problem, if one exists, couldn't be easily found. I think you need to find a more competent tech or better yet, take it back to where you got it and demand a new guitar under warranty. That's what it is for.

Geez, it's not the inertial navigation system for the space shuttle!

Really.

Railroadman: Post some detailed photos of the pickup and control wiring. I bet someone here will figure out the problem in a couple of minutes.

The "tech" couldn't find a problem, could he? Fender didn't understand how there can be a problem. So either is is no problem or the people you are dealing with are incompetent.

See my response to Retroverbial.

For what it's worth, except for this one glitch, I'm REALLY happy with this guitar. The first thing that caught my eye was the ash body- and I lucked up with a really nice, solid, dense plank. On the one other Dlx Player I've seen, not so much, so I lucked up with that. The next one I get could be technically on the money, but not sound nearly as good. That's part of the Fender mystique, or so I've always thought. I lucked up with a beauty; wiring and components can (and over the life of this guitar, probably will) be changed. I may even have somebody else look at it soon. But for now, I'm just grateful to have lucked into a beautiful instrument that absolutely SINGS... Jus' sayin'...

Well, when you finally get sick enough of the problem and no one else can figure it out, you know where to come.

Can't help but notice that you're a pretty rude guy, huh?

Hey, I'm sorry I wasted my time trying to help you out. I hope that you can find someone out there that can resolve your "problem" because I just lost any interest I had in helping you. Good luck.

It's interesting how rudeness and sensitivity always seem to go hand in hand.

I love people who jump into a thread and contribute nothing.

I suggest you reread my posts. You came here looking for help and advice. Several of us tried. I suggested you post some photos here so that we could take a look at the wiring. You claim the guitar "absolutely sings", yet you went to a lot of trouble chasing after some unknown problem. The only conclusion to be drawn from this thread is that no problem exists, or the tech you are dealing with is incompetent. I'm not the one that needs help. Good luck.

Howdy!

If you do seek to rectify the issue later, please come back here and let us know the result. I for one am intrigued and the solution you find may well help someone with a similar issue later on.

I'd bet my left gentleman globe that its a simple case of replacing the cap and maybe a pot or two. No biggy!

Best of luck and enjoy your Strat! :D

Andy

To B.S.636- don't know why I'm even continuing to engage in this foolishness, but I very clearly stated what the problem with tho tone controls was, so, at the very least, you DO need help with your reading comprehension. Underlying emotional issues and possibly a tenuous grasp of reality may be addressed later..

To Andy- Thanks for your assessment, as well as your civility and friendly tone. I figure, too, that the fix for this has to be relatively simple. When I can part with my new toy long enough to put it back into the shop, I'll pass along the details...

Regards- Billy

Hey- Found a new tech who's pretty highly regarded by the local guitar folks, who tells me that right off the bat, I've got a bad neck pickup, and that this is why the tone is wrong, and may (or may not) be causing the weirdness w/ the tone pots. All well and good, 'til he tells me that it could take WEEKS for him to get the replacement from Fender. Please say it ain't so!!!!

I've never been a fan of the fancy wiring. Honestly, it sounds like a bad pickup. Perhaps the pickup itself's internal wiring is barely attached.
