Since the Modern Player series is made overseas aren't they created at the same factories as the Squiers. Are they just in fact a ploy from Fender to remove the "Squier" from the headstock and promote a slightly cheaper guitar from their MIM line up?

Maybe...or maybe not. I don't know, but it would seem cost effective for Fender to use the same factory that produces their Chinese Squiers for the MP Series as well. But there are also Squiers made in Indonesia and I think Korea too (?). As to weather or not it's a ploy to remove the Squier name from the headstock is probably not the case. The Squiers are still cheaper and will appeal to some who see them as a value and don't care about the name but I'm sure there is financial gain to be realized by the company to be able to sell "Fender" branded instruments (probably made in the same factory) at a slightly higher price.

I was asking about the Modern Player Strat in another post I had and the reviews are fairly positive.

I started thinking about it in terms of the features and price point and now I'm thinking that it is intended to compete with "shred" style guitars in this price range, like Ibanez, ESP, etc. The MP Strat is HSS w/ 22 jumbo frets and made overseas. (MIM are 21 med jumbo frets except for Blacktop w/ 22.) Also eye catching with Silverburt color and White w/ Black pickguard.

Don't know if this is Fenders intent, but just a thought....

Just because they're made in the same factory, it may not mean they're using the same materials for both lines. Or that all staff are equally trained..

Just had a brief look at prices, the mp guitars are only about 20-30 gbp cheaper than a mim std. But the mp guitars are more interesting ideas, obviously as they're non standard. I have a mim strat, and as great as it is i wouldnt buy another mim std because i dont want another std guitar, i want something more interesting. Even my std strat has a ltd edition finish. And i guess the mp is the cheapest way to a fender 'custom' type guitar.

I believe some of the higher end Squier such as the Classic Vibe are really well made guitars. My thought was does Fender believe despite the quality of these fantastic guitar, do buyer still turn away because of the Squier decal on the headstock, so they created the modern player series?

I don't get the point of this string. Is the OP questioning if the Modern Player is as good as the Squier, which is widely consider Fender's best product for the value?

It's a "thread", not a "string" :D . But what I understand the question to be is weather or not the Modern Player Stratocaster in particular is basically a higher-end Squier with a Fender badge. I've wondered about this too as I am on a very tight budget and would like to get another Strat and the Modern Player looks like an attractive option. I've also considered the Squier Deluxe Strat, but the MP already has a humbucker and features coil splitting. If I went with the Squier, I'd be looking for a humbucker to stick in the bridge position. Having played one, I have to say that the Modern Player is an impressive guitar.

Edited to add:

...as far as Squier being widely considered Fender's best product for the value? Sorry bro - don't agree with that. But they have stepped up over the years and are certainly worth a look. IMHO, Fender's "best" (subjective) value is the American Standard series.

Old thread revisited... I rather think the MIM Classic series is the best...

Here in Europe, I always advise beginners who are reluctant to Classic 2nd hand because their price is reasonable and can be improved as have wants.
I look for a Squier Classic Vibe when I find my Classic 50s for the same price.
