I did my 1st strat wiring job and did something wrong...

I get some sound from the guitar but very, very low. I can turn my amp to 10 and still barely hear the guitar.

There is a lot of hum and buzz too.

When I turn the volume on the guitar, around 9 I here a pop. Turn it from 10 down, a pop again.

I checked all my grounds and made sure the output wires are not backwards.

My guess is, is that I fried the volume pot...????

Your thoughts...

Thanks!!!

How about a pic of wiring first? It takes a hell of an electrician to solve your problem with only a description of a "pop" in internet ;)

Can be just about anything. However frying a pot is not so easy than "they" frighten people. Sounds more like short circuit or "cold" joint for me so far, but it can also be wired wrong somewhere.

Changing mic combination from 5 (3?)-way switch doesn't change a thing?

Edit: Next time connect your fresh set in amp when it is still loose and tap mics to test them before rebuilding the guitar. Saves a lot of work.

Howdy!

As previously mentioned some nice clear pic's of your wiring would be very handy. The hum and the noise sounds like a grounding issue and the pop might be a dodgy cap. I'd like to see how you've wired your tone pots.

Could you also post a link to the diagram you have been working from?

Cheers!

Andy
