Hi guys...need some opinions or advice so i can decide and finish up with project guitar.
Ok currently i have an '06 maple Fender neck C shaped with the big headstock like the 70's model with the Schaller locking tuners like those in the American Deluxe HSS models which i bought from eBay.I'm kinda undecided with what wood for the body....was thinking that it would be either Ash or Alder in Surf Green. The problem is that i cant seem to find an Ash Fender body in Surf Green (which i think Fender dont produce but i could be wrong here) and Alder seemed to be plenty around.I dont wanna settle for Alder as 2 of my Fenders are already Alder...
So maybe you guys could help me in deciding if i should settle for Alder or continue with my search for an Ash body...btw i heard that Ash body gives a good "bell like" tone...or anyone have any ideas where i can find an Ash body is greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :D

Try Warmoth for ash, if you really think it "sounds" different. They have three surf green alder bodies int he showcase right now, but they'll paint you an ash one.

My main Strat-style guitar is all Warmoth wood and plastics. They're extremely helpful, they know their product, and the quality is el perfecto. They rule.

Anybody you talk to there will be just as informative as anyone else... just call and say "hi."

No, it's one of Warmoth's "hollow" chambered Strats in mahogany, finished in Danish oil and beeswax.

EDIT: Pic removed because of hosting problems on my end.

Try Ebay for some older bodies. As a friend of mine says..."Old Wood is GOOD Wood." I bought SEVERAL bodies off Ebay & only got stung once. Dude said it was a USA Fender ash body. Came in & it was plywood. Called Fender in Scottsdale & the rep said "HECK NO!!! No plywood bodies made here." He was kicked off Ebay.

later mahn

Well my search did start from there in eBay......couldnt even find any Ash in Surf Green bodies so far....all that i can manage to find are Alder in Surf Green...

I'd like to know anyone out there who owns both Ash + Alder body Fender and has made a comparison in terms of sustain, tone, weight etc etc...that would greatly help me.

Ash is usually used for transparent bodies. Alder is used for painted bodies.

Stewart-McDonald sells a pre-finished ash body with a quilt maple top. Sounds like what you want to me. They look real nice in the catalog. You can get unfinished too.
