Hi, i'm going to buy a strat here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-American ... 500wt_1413

Everything seems to be well with this item, but i'm confused with the price. As I know, average price for american standard is around 1000 (am I right?), but here is only 500. I checked SN, it's real '93 strat, but I still wonder, why is it so cheap? I thought, maybe these EMG SA Pickups NR are not good - what can you tell about them, because i'm not an expert in such specific pickups. I just wanted good standard alnico pickups:)
Thanks.

Thanks, I thought that with this it had to be like "the older - the better".
And I am also considering another option - 1100 for also american standard, but 2001. I live in Russia and 2001 strat is already here. I think its real price should be about 100 lower because of shipping. Anyway, is this price fair enough?
Sorry for my English. I appreciate your help.

Здравствуйте!

The price asked for the American Std is about right, but I'd go for the guitar from 2001. The 2001 Strat is an American Series Stratocaster. back around 2000 Fender updated the Stratocaster. Fender made the body contours moew like they were back in the '50s & '60s. The edges of the neck were rounded off to make the neck have that "broken in" feel. The pickupd were redesigned and made with staggard magnet poll pieces. The tuning keys were staggard. The pickup cavety was returned to a more vintage style.

Over all I think it's better guitar.

I'm not as familiar with the latest version of the Stratocaster. I know that in the last few years Fender made some changes that they feel improved on the American Series.

Fender kept the neck, the tuning keys, and the body shape.

They replaced the pickups with Custom Shop Fat '50s, the bridge block, changed the bridge saddles with vinatage saddles.

As much as I love my 2004 50th Aniversary American Series Stratocaster, I played the new American Std. and was pretty impressed. so yes I would say that they are better than the American Series.

I all this information helps. Good luck!

Paris

And what could you tel about 90's AV '62 RI vs. mid. 00's? is there a huge difference between them in sound?
I'm sorry if I'm annoying you, but this is the first expensive (for me) guitar i'm going to buy)

Not bothering me at all. I don't mind helping at all. As far as the '90s AV '62 RI vs. '00s well that's hard to say. I've never played either of them. I would say that early AV Strats were not as close to the actual vintage '62s. I'm thinking that the body contours, pickups and neck are going to be closer to the real thing.

Remember, these earlier VR were have the same look and feel of the older Strats, but Fender wasn't going to be able to make them as acturate with the factory they were using. Now when Fender moved and had a brand new factory with the best tools avalible, they could make them much more accurate to the real vintage Strats.

I'd say they are better made guitars. Truth be told, I would say that if it's possible, find a place that sells these guitars and play them.

There are so many different types of Strats out there to match each person's taste. For me one of the best Strats ever made is the Eric Clapton Strats with Lace Sensors.

Good luck and let me know how it all turns out.
