I found a strat today that I haven't seen a headstock quite like this one and what it read on the back of it. I was wondering if anyone could help identify it. The Fender logo on the front is goldish color. The serial number on the back is S/ n097998705. On the righgt side of the back of the headstock it says special edition with a star up underneath it. Its white on white with an 8 hole pickguard and a rosewood fretboard with american vintage tremelo on it. He is wanting 650.00 for it. I am trying to find out what it is before I invest money into it. I was told it was an Eric Clapton model but have found out thtat it isn't.

Les A...PICs would help out immensley! It could be a couple different guitars. Or you could send the serial number to consumerrelations@fender.com and they will give it's spec, etc.

That's not your typical combination. That alone makes me suspicious of it.

+1

The only "factory" Strat that I can think of with that configuration is the RW Eric Johnson signature edition.

The serial number looks strange to me, too many numbers. And is that an "n" at the beginning?

So... You didn't get the message. Some how I ended up sending it back to myself. Here's what I sent you.

I received your message. To help ID your Strat I would love some pictures.

The S/N is from the '90s, but would be on the front of the guitar. I've seen the special Edition logo before.
It's usually a special batch of guitars made for some guitar store like Sam
Ash or Guitar Center.

Based on what you've told me so far. An 8 whole pick guard would be a '50s
style Strat. Is the pick guard 3ply? Also, are the tuning keys vintage
style? Does the neck have the skunk stripe on the back of the neck? If it
has the skunk stripe and the truss rod adjustment is on the headstock end,
then I'd say it's a modern neck. If it has no skunk stripe and the truss
rod adjustment at the base of the neck, then it's a '60s style neck.

As to the EC aspect of the guitar: The EC Strat does come in white with a
white single ply pick guard and vintage 6 point bridge. A modern bridge
would be a two-point.

To be an EC Strat if it had noiseless pickups and a mid-range boost.

I would have them take the guitar apart. This is what you'll see if it
were a Clapton Strat: Under the pick guard you'll find a small circuit
board (the midrange boost).
No matter what I think it's a fair price. Even if it’s a mix between a
Clapton Strat and a modern Strat I still think it a very good price.
I hope this all helps. I know that I've given you a lot of information.

I sent some pics to you paris they are also on the other post. I found out it was an asian strat. Fander told me the serial number wasn't ight for a USA strat. It foes say made in the Usa on the back of it. When I went back to tell em they got suckered they couldn't believe it. I told them that just casuse someone told them it was an eric clapton strat doesn't mean that it is. On my way home I hit another pawnshop and found a 96 Gibson Les Paul DC Standard with a flame top. Has one spot below the pickups He wanted 1299.00 for it I told him all I had was 800.00 and he took it. Its pretty sweet !! Here are some pics:

Glad that you didn't buy the Strat copy. The Gibson's a better deal.
