I just got my first Strat and it's a beauty but the guy at the store didn't have a clue about the series. Here are some of the specs:

(Some kind of) White body / tortoise pickguard
Gold metal
SCN pups / S1
"V" + 6 digits serial number on a gold plate behind the heel, but no other inscription
Screw in trem arm

It seems like an Amer Dlx, except for the gold metal and the serial no.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

V means it's a U.S. Vintage Series strat. If you click Support at the top of the page you'll see a link to Product Dating. There you'll find the serial number systems for most years of Fender guitars.

Did that; according the the info, it's made sometime between 1982 and now. Unless I want to disassemble the guitar and look at the butt of the neck, which I'm not about to do.

Obviously, with SCNs and S1 it's reasonably recent. I think it's actually new. At least, it was sold to me as new.

It won't hurt a thing to check out the neck butt. You may have check the intonation real quick after, but it won't be far off.
