Is there a way to identify whether a American Deluxe Stratocaster is Ash or Alder body?...by Serial Number maybe?

Here's the link for the Am. Dlx Strat. It should tell you everything that you need to know.

It depends on the year of the guitar - the ash-bodied American Deluxes were not separate models during the run of the first version (1998-2003). However, they were always different colors than the alder-bodied versions - during the first run the ash bodies were transparent teal, transaparent blonde, natural, and for a few years transparent purple.

Thanks for the answers. The reason I ask is that I am looking for a good used Ash body model. I looked at a 2004 American Deluxe that a guy has. It is 3 color sunburst with Rosewood fret board, S/N DZ4257091. I am thinking it is an alder body model.

Good point. I forget sometimes that Fender has a babit of making changes.
