What do I mean?

I mean the strat itself is an icon, love them, love the way they play.

But can I get a color selection besides red, black, white, other shades of white, sunburst, and sparkly grays? Really? You'll notice that black, white, and various greys dominate the spectrum there. Bleh.

I like a strat with some personality. What happened to Lake Placid Blue? What happened to Graffiti Yellow? Why can't I get a quality American Strat in any other color besides the boring old usuals? A cool green would be fun. I know they made them in the past, just seems to be getting pretty ho-hum lately.

It bugs me.

I agree they seem to not use any cool colors anymore. Sherwood Green, How about brown?

Sunset Metallic isn't boring. It may not be every ones cup of tea, but every time I take it anywhere someone comments on how cool it looks.
One thing about Fender is the choice of features is pretty high. Neck radius, fret size, pickups, S1 switch, tuners, there's a lot of choices.

You only need one.

Sure, you only need one. That's not always true, but for most people, sure.

So lets say you are upgrading from a starter guitar to more advanced guitar. You had a squier, but you're getting the hang of it, and it's time for a nice one.

And you're all excited and you go to the local music store, and you're all like, "wow, black, silver, white, off-whiteish, greyer, red, other reddish one, and sunburst. Huh."

I'm referring to the American Standard Strat of course.

I just find it mind boggling. For me, I'm in the situation where I wanted to upgrade and move on to a nice, real strat. I guess It's just one of those times where hitting the used section and classifieds is the ticket.

I just find it odd that some fender signature colors (which I, and presumably many others, love) are mostly absent from their line anymore. It's just weird man.

I bet the custom shop has the colors you're after.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put a color out on the production models for a year or 2 to make people aware of the color and then limit it to the custom shop.

You are right! The fender custom shop offers a wider
Range of colours but you pay $1500 dollars more
But there is a new range of squire's and they are awesome
Lipstick pickups and rare colours!

Buy a used 1990s Strat. There are a lot of cool colors out there for less than a new American Standard.

I totally agree. My theory would be that they limit the Standard models to a few colors to save money. Keep the price down since eBay and Craigslist are such big competitors. Maybe they should worry about all the other manufacturers that are putting cool finishes and colors on their guitars.
Anyhoo, I'm with you that they really need to spice up the color selection on the base models and maybe drop some of the over produced colors they have now. It's also a little harder on me because I want the maple fret board and there are not that many on the wall most of the time.

There are a couple of colors that they should never drop because they are classic - red, black and sunburst.

But I think they should rotate the others every few years. Leave a few colors strictly for the CS and maybe for those who like something not everyone is going to have but can't afford the CS, have a few of those colors used by the production floor each year be very limited.

I always loved the "7-up can" green that the original Clapton Strats were available in.

I think it's a style thing. "Back in the day," you could've custom-ordered a Strat in any color that would've been right at home on a 1957 DeSoto, right? I mean look at this car, can you even imagine a new car being sold in that color???Image
Well, these days, year-after-year the most popular car colors seem to be some variation of silver, and all kinds of boring suburban-looking metallic beiges and light greens. Meh. I'm sure Fender feels that by keeping it on the straight-and-narrow, at least for the "Standard" model guitars, their guitars will have the most crossover appeal.

The sad part is I see tons of black with white PG but few black with black PG and no white with black PG. It's not just the body color but the configurations that are getting limited. we've seen the sunburst with black, white, and tort, Guards not all the rest. A red with black PG would be cool. Who knows, I'm sure there is a way overpaid guy in a corporate office somewhere who has all sorts of stats explaining which combos appeal to the most people.
