OK, so I am ready to pony up the dough on an American-Made Fender because I am tired of purchasing the cheaper versions that never last and never sound as good. I would really appreciate some information on which models I should look at based on my style of music.

I play mostly Rock / Alternative such as Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, etc, but I also love the classics, especially Pink Floyd. This is why the American Standard Strat seemed appealing to me. I want it to have the potential of playing leads such as the ones in Comfortably Numb but also heavy enough for songs like Cherub Rock by the Smashing Pumpkins.

I also have a new set of the Mod Shop SCM pickups. I got them to go into my MIM strat but decided to get an American Made instead. If The American Standard Strat would work, should I replace the pickups with these?

Any help is appreciated!

Not quite sure I understand what your trying to do. You have a MIM which you swapped out the pickups for some good ones, but you want an MIA which your planning on still swapping out the pickups on???

Your kinda pissin' in the wind don't ya think.

It would seem that way LOL. Bottom line is that I want to get away from the cheap mexico version because it's old and not in the best of shap. I want to spend the money on something that is of good quality. The SCM pickups are really not that important to me beause they will go on Ebay if the pickups on the MIA Strat are better. I just want to know what style of the MIA Fender will fit my music style.

I personally think you can come close to those sounds with any fender. You should just go to some shops and see what tickles your fancy, whatever you get, if your not entirely satisfied with the sound, you can finish your tone search and maybe you can find some pickups to drop in. One way or the other your obviously wanting a strat, so I think it's the pickups that your having trouble finding. You might want to try a HSS as well as SSS models, you just never know what'll grab ya.

I think the best person to answer your question would be, YOU. Only you truely know exactly what feels good in your hands and what tone you're seeking. I suggest you go to your local GC or other store and just play all kinds of different strats and see which one fits your needs in feel, tone, looks and price.

you mentioned replacing pickups. I own a 06 MiM Fat Start in sun burst with rosewood. It was my first electric guitar. I wasn't getting the sound I wanted out of it so I did some mods on it. First I changed the pick ups from stock to Seymour Duncans. It was an instant difference in sound. I got what I was looking for.

If you go to the Seymour Duncan web site you'll find the "Tone Wizard". It helps you decide on what pickups to choose depending on what style you play.
