Well, it certainly isn't a bad choice, but it depends on what kind of sound you are looking for. Also, you may want to consider the fact the Pearly Gates is not 100% hum-free as the coils are intentionally mismatched.

Do you mean an outright, Pearly Gates or a Pearly Gates Plus? They are two separate and distinct pickups.

This is a very important distinction. In short, the PG+ is voiced brighter and maybe a little louder as it uses Alnico V magnets. I used to have a US Lonestar with this pup and while it was a versatile axe, the PG+ would not be my first choice if I were into heavier styles of music.

I'm going off on a slight tangent here: I think the absolute best, full sized humbucker ever made for the neck position is the Pearly Gates.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

So, based on that, Martian, what would you consider the best combo for an HSH Strat? Music choice being classic rock up to current rock...

A Duncan Custom in the bridge and for the middle, a DiMarzio Fast Track 1.

Ive got the Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge position, check that one out, it was the exact sound I was looking for. Add the pearly gates in the neck position and the guitar is a beast!!

Seymour-Duncan Vintage '59, reverse-wound, in the neck position - Seymour-Duncan Pearly Gates at the bridge = one schweet sounding guitar!

Image

All stock Fender Toronado GT, solid mahogany body, pickups as above, made in Korea from 2005-2006. The Korean versions sported real US Seymour-Duncan pickups (as opposed to Duncan Designed), while Mexican and US versions of the Toronado sported Fender's Atomic humbuckers.

Ive got a Gibby with an Alnico II Pro in the neck and a Pearly in the bridge. Good set up, but the Pearly is definitely a med output level, so if your looking for a hot 59 clone I would think about something with stronger magnets. Nice mids with the Pearly, though.
