I am researching before shopping and have settled on a Montego Black strat with the gold picard, but I am unsure of the humbucker model or the three single coil model, which Fender says is hotter than its routine coil pickups. I am leaning toward a rosewood fretboard, but would love to hear from anyone with an ebony fretboard on a strat. My current strat is a very buttery maple neck and board. Advice from anyone who has played both pickups and necks is most appreciated.

Very nice combination, i was playing one the other day, beautiful guitar. Sounds to me like you're looking at a Deluxe model, if so good for you, I have had my Deluxe now for about a year and am still falling in love with it. It's true what they say, the bridge is a hot pickup that sounds great clean or with overdrive, i really have no complaints at all about it, when compared to my fat strat with the humbucking bridge, i will still choose the single coil route, the SCN's are great pickups that have plenty of punch. Hopefully that's what you're looking at so this feedback can help you out a bit.
By the way there is a great demo of the SCN's on a custom shop guitar at youtube, here's the link

One more note, the SCN's have a weak magnetic pull so you can even crank that bridge pickup up a bit if you want alot more out of it.

Hello Scorpion

FMT and QMT Deluxes are the only strats
made today with ebony boards. Personally
I really like ebony, couple of years back
Guitar Center had a, None More Black edition,
with ebony, they were nice but sadly sold out
before I had the do-re-mi.

Cheers.
