I own a modern American Strat. I want to remov the modern tuning keys and install vintage ones. Has anyone ever done this? Will it work?

It can be done. But your probably gonna need some adapter bushings to bring the size down some.

You can find some here for $7.99 http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/tune ... shings.htm

what is the advantage? I think the modern locking tuners on my Am Dlx Strat are superior.

I think the vintage slotted tuners are fantastic. Simple, never slips, looks cool. They got it right the first time. String changes are a breeze.

Could not have said it better myself. I love mine, the look, tuning stability. Most important the nostalgia about'em. My #1 tuner is bent, but still holds tune better than ever. Nope, no problems here.
