I'm sure this isn't the fist time this has been discussed on this site, but I'm interested in what others think....

I love the Fender Strat tone. I have a number of Strats and I currently own a Mustang III and a SC SD (a father on a budget...). However, I recently played a Strat through a Marshall amp at a local shop and, WOW, was I impressed! In my mind it almost seem to enhance the Strat tone that I love.

Sure, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but does anyone out there feel strongly about the Strat / Marshall combo?

I believe Jimi was a Strat / Marshall guy, but none-the-less, in my mind, it just sounded sweet when I played it for myself...

Would the term "Match made in Heaven" just about describe it?

I've always thought that the Marshall/Fender pairing was a terrific combination...

My Strat sounds good through most anything I've tried, but if I was picking out a major amp it would probably be some model of Marshall stack.

OTOH, my Gibson ES335 has always been paired with a Fender amp, and i've been pretty satisfied with the sound since I got it in '75... <G>

If we're talking about classic, non-master volume, Bluesbreaker or Plexi tone, I agree, it's a righteous combo. I definitely foresee a NAD (new amp day) in the near future for me ever since I tried the Marshall Class 5. It's really the only classic-type Marshall I can justify getting right now, volume and price-wise.

If you ask me, Strats go very well with EVERY tube amp.
Which one you choose is a matter of taste.

I played Strats (humbuckers!!) through a Laney 50W head with 2 Marshall 4x12 cabinets in my band in the 90s. Very good tone but lots of noise with high distortion settings (typical for Laney IMHO).

I never liked Marshall amps those days.

After the band had broken up I used an Ashdown combo (tube), Line6 Spider I (modeling), Fender Blues Deluxe combo (tube) and a Vox Valvetronix (modeling). I never was really satisfied.

Now I'm playing through a Fender Cyber Twin (the ONE AND ONLY modeling amp which actually WORKS!!) and a Vox Nighttrain.
Both are fantastic sounding amps.

For Strats I prefer the Nighttrain for crunch and rock tones and the Cyber Twin for those well known sparkling and chimey Fender clean sounds.

When I tested a 1976 Fender Strat before buying it, I finally found the HOLY GRAIL!
I love dirty rock sounds and the guy had an Orange head with 4x12" Cabinet and that just blew me away!!!!
I don't have one yet (and I don't need one right now, the Twin and the Vox are way loud enough for playing at home!) but I'm looking for musicians to form a new band (blues rock) and my setup will DEFINITELY include an Orange Rockerverb!!

As I said, it's a matter of taste. To me, hardly any amp can beat an Orange stack!!
(except maybe for the one or the other inaffordable boutique amp or high class amps like Mesa Boogie and alike, which cost 2 or 3 times as much)

Rock & Strat = ORANGE!! (my personal holy grail)
Clean & Strat = FENDER (Twin Reverb preferred)

I haven't touched ANY Marshall again since 1991 and I was thinking about testing out some of them at our local store because I am much more experienced today and my taste has changed during the past 22 years. I have heard some great marshall sounds during the past years and I decided to give them a chance again.

I find the strat sounds really good in a Vox. I also have a Traynor YCS50H. I'm sure if I took the time to fiddle with it that the strat would get great tones from it, but it seems to be more suitable for humbuckers than single coils.

There is a reason though that so many strat players used Marshalls- not just Hendrix but also Yngwie and Ritchie Blackmore to name 2 more.

I have 3 guitars with single coil pickups, played thru a 79 Marshall JMP 50 watt.
and get different tones on each,
1 has the Texas Specials which give the classic SRV tone with all controls set to 12 o'clock, and run thru a old tube screamer, sounds great but the pickups are noisy.
2nd has the vintage noiseless, which has great tone and very quite at high gain settings.
3rd is seymour duncan JB Jr. in the bridge, and little 59 in the neck and the sound is amazing. this guitar is great in all areas from hard rock to classic blues tones.
the amp / cabinet gives the best tones when played at club volume, these amps don't get great response until the tubes are being pushed, but when they are, it's a eargasam.

Wasn't Clapton famous for playing his Strat through a Marshall Double stack cranked to 10? Yeah, I'd say that the combo has done well over the years, :)

Imho, a Strat and a Marshall are a good combination. I just have a 30 watt practice amp at the moment, but it's a Marshall anyway. I would like an all tube Marshall stack, but at the moment, that's a little like the people in hell wanting ice water.

i definiately do!

i play a Fender American Select Stratocaster (mahogony body, HSS) and it sounds great though my rig, a Marshall JCM2000 DSL50 head and 2x12 marshall cab...

through in my own handwired tubescreamer and its great for solos

i have played it though other amps but this really allows for versitiality, metal, blues, classic rock... whatever it will play it all!

Agreed!! I play my 2001 American start through a Marshall AVT50. Never really had the volume above 1.5 due to noise and neighbours but recently took it to work, plugged it in the ware house and cranked it all the way to 10! OMG! The sound was awsome. The crunch, the compression. And as for the clean sounds!?!? I can get some great fender cleans, all at bedroom levels. That said, I am looking at trying out a blues junior in the next few weeks. :0)

Nothing but Strats, Teles and Marshall for the past 25 years. I have no intention of ever using anything else.

Strats and Marshalls have been my main set up for a couple decades too.

If you like the Strat/Marshall sound, definately check out the Experience Hendrix Tour on the road now. We caught the show in Nashville and the musicians used a variety of old Marshall amps. All the guitars used were Fender Stratocasters with the lone exception of Jonny Langs's Fender Thinline Telecaster. No Gibsons!!!
