alright, so I am currently rebuilding a telecaster. I am in the process of refinishing it. I am gonna paint it flat black, with auto primer, so it wears off quickly. I know that sometimes Fender would paint a body with 2 layers of paint, for example, I've seen a white body, with a black undercoat. I was just wondering if anybody knew what would be a correct combination of colors that fender might use for a black top coat? maybe a grey undercoat?

Also, what would be a good type of paint to use, in order for it to be able to wear quickly? I want it to be a matte finish. I've read that auto primer works great for finishes that will destroy fast.

also, while you are reading this, does anybody know where I can buy aged hardware for telecasters? Or an easy way to age hardware?

thanks in advance.

Fender uses a clear (yellowy in colour) undercoat on alder guitars, ...and I'm not sure about ash.
I painted my Partocaster with automotive paint, and it turned out fine.

...You can get aged hardware on Callahamguitars.com

My Strat has a big dent in the body, and that clear undercoat didn't even crack. It fallows the contours of the dent, while staying in tact!! Crazy Stuff.

Use nitrocellulose for thin finishes.
