Found the following on Craigslist. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. He says it's mint for $650.
I verified the serial number

Fender American Fat Strat 2003 "Texas Special" in excellent condition. It is silver with a pearl pick guard. It has a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Plus pickup and 2 custom staggered Texas Special pickups. It comes with a Fender Strat hard case.

If I had the cash, I'd jump on it.

Must be a small apartment if he has to take pictures of his guitar in the bathroom.

It looks like a good deal from what I can see. Make sure that
you check the fret wear all over the neck and no dead notes
or crackling noises when plugged in. (good negotiating for price issues).

A quick google mentions :

"The Roadhouse was replaced in July 2000 by the "American Series Texas Special Strat" which was the American Series (with all the upgrades including rolled fingerboard edges) and the Texas Special pickups. The Lone Star became the "American Series Texas Special Fat Strat" and the Big Apple became the "American Series Double Fat Strat".

All 3 of these guitars were discontinued in July 2003; the "American Series Texas Special Fat Strat" became the "American HSS Strat" and the pickups changed to Tex-Mex single coils and a Fender humbucker with the S-1 switch and the "American Series Double Fat Strat" became the "American HH Strat" with Fender humbuckers and S-1 switching."

Bring $620 in crisp, nonconsecutive twenties and fan them out.

Thanks for all the reply's and info. I already talked him down from $700 so If it is mint I won't risk anymore. If not then I'll negotiate more.

Guitar Dater shows:
Your guitar was made at the
Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 2003 - 2004

More info I found online:
American Series Fat Strat Texas Special (July 2000 - July 2003) - receives all upgrades associated with the American Series (rolled neck, staggered height tuners, 1 string tree, etc) but still has the Texas Specials and Duncan Pearly Gates. Still has special colors and pearl or shell pickguard.

I agree, before you shell out that kinda money you have to make sure the guitar speaks to you. Otherwise its just a hunk of wood that you plunk on.

+1. Have the money in cash and show it to him. There is a huge difference between haggling over email and holding a wad of cash under his nose.
