Hey all. Im looking into starting a strat project and am wondering if anyone can recommend the places to look for the bits, i.e. body, neck etc. . . Ideall, Im after Fender parts and if possible, a body from the 70s, 80s or something. Had a look quickly on ebay but cant see an awful lot.

Any advice would be great and any stories people could share on similar project experiences would be great.

I've been thinking the same thing here lately. Check out Warmoth.com. They have different bodies/necks to choose from, prettly overwhelming when you check it out.

Two ways I was thinking about:

1. buying a couple of used strats, taking the best parts, sell the rest, mod with other parts (tuners, pickups....)

2. buying a used strat, just keep the body and bridge, sell the rest, start from scratch with the used body.

I decided to go for #2, because the neck I want can't be found on ANY strat.
I kept a mexican body with bridge (might as well route and install a Floyd Rose, I've got an Edge laying around unused, but I don't think so).
I ordered the neck from Warmouth (400 something dollars plus shipping plus customs ). Got my vintage tuners off eBay.

I'd say the most popular addresses would be Allparts, Warmouth, Fender dealers and eBay.
