Has anyone played the Modern Player HSS Strat? I'm wondering about the quality and tone at this price point. I like the idea of 22 jumbo frets and the look of the white Strat w/ black pickguard on a value Strat. Just wondering if it sounds any good...

On the spec sheet the pickups are described as Modern Player Strat Pickups. Wondering what these are all about...

I've read on other message boards that the Modern Player Strat might be made in China and might be the Fender version of the Squier Classic Vibe.

I have a MP Marauder and I played a MP Thinline Tele and both are excellent quality guitars. If the MP Strat has the same quality (which I see no reason why it wouldn't) then it's an excellent value.

And for better or worse, they are indeed built in China.

I just ordered a Fender Modern Player Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar Silverburst from musiciansfriend.com. Hoping it will be a good one. Not much for reviews on the internet yet.

if the Modern Player Strat is anything like my MP Tele Bass and anywhere near the Marauder
that I was listening to at the Fender Road show, then you will have no problems with it.
For the price of the Modern Player series, I really don't think anyone will have nothing to complain about.

Fender has come up with a new series of guitars with Mexican quality and a lower price. I'd dare say that the MP series is close to American quality. I would guess that the reason they don't make any "traditional" MP models (except for the HSS Strat all of the MP guitars and basses are not the "classic" designs) is because they would cut into sales of the higher priced Mexican Fenders. They're that good.

Hey TDIERS, once you recieve your silverburst, please post your thoughts on this guitar. Would love your feedback! Thanks!

I'm really interested in the quality and tone of this guitar. I do like the idea of 22 JUMBO frets and all at this price point. I know it's not an American of course, but wondering if it's on par with the MIM strats (or better?!).

I followed the link to the Musicians Friend website but the review was not there. On the page, it indicated 1 review, but there was no verbage for the review. I'll have to try again later or on another computer...

BTW tdiers, did you receive you Silverburst?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe they tried to redue the review, because the original didn't have an overall star score. I don't know. However, it was a good review saying their Modern Player Strat was as good as any MIM or maybe better.

No, I'm still (very impatiently) waiting for mine to get here.

The review is back up again. But, here's a copy in case it goes down again.

Very nice axe for the money
| Review By: Mike-MV5QZ | 3 days, 42 minutes ago

Features: 5/5
Its a strat, so it has the standard controls and pickup configuration but with the addion of the bridge humbucker and the push pull coil tap on the rear tone control. The trem and tuners are fantastic considering this guitar costs less than some squiers on here. The pickups sound really nice, not super high end but certainly better than the stock pups on most fenders.

Quality: 5/5
This was something that I found slightly confusing. I have played mim fender strats with major issues straight from the factory and some that were pretty decent. This strat came straight out of the box with no issues. perfect fretting, intonation, and action. I was expecting to do a fair amount of setup on it, but that was entirely unneccessary. The finish is flawless, and I find myself thinking "this has to be a joke, This guitar could not possibly be made in china."

If this is what fender has to offer from china, fender america may be in trouble...

Value: 5/5
This thing is truely a well made guitar, suitable for pro and novice alike, that costs less than a playable squier in many instances.

Overall: 0/5
this guitar gets a 10 easily. for a bargain basement price you get a real fender, with super high end features and beautiful finish (the silver burst makes for an incredibly sexy axe). The neck on this thing blows me away. you will regret not buying this guitar.

I like the price (haven't won the lottery yet :D ) and the silverburst finish looks real nice. But at that price point, I have to wonder how it compares to a Squier Deluxe Strat (I'd add an aftermarket humbucker)? One is a "Fender" and the other is a "Squier", but they're both made in China. Hmm.....seems that I'll have to run down to GC and do an A/B.

:D I finally got my Modern Player Strat today!!!
I have to say, I totally agree with the person's review that I posted earlier. It definately is a well made axe. I haven't found anything wrong with it yet. It only needed minor adjustments to put it in tune out of the box. No fret buzz, smooth frets, beautiful finish. The silver burst color is unique, it looks all black when viewed from and angle and only shows bright silver when viewed directly. It is very hard to get a picture that does it justice.
You can't get any better than this for 4 bills. :D

The funny thing about it is that the guitar looks like it's a black-and-white photo superimposed over a color background. Congrats on your new Strat.

TDIERS, congrats! That is one SWEET looking guitar! And I love the vintage looking tuners. :)

Any thoughts on the pickups / tone? Thanks...
