I never got the super low guitar thing, I mean if you have really long arms, then sure, but look at Tom Morello, he rides it high and rocks harder than most.

I've always preferred playability over the how low can you go game.

Truth be told, there are several factors involved in where to sling your guitar. First: If you only play bar chords and not much lead than hanging it low isn't much of an issue. If you play lead, that's another story. The rule of thumb would be to play the hardest or most dextrous song and when you can play it with ease than you have the right height. Its one thing to look cool but if you don't sound cool you wont be cool at all.

When I played a les paul, when i was about 15 i perferred to be able to pee over my guitar. When i was 19 and used a telecaster I perferred to be able to pee under it. Now im 23 and I perfer to be able to pee into the trem-block of my stratocaster. Maybe the years of playing have made me find out what I find comfortable instead of looking "cool".

I prefer having my guitar at the height so my strumming arm fits perfectly in the contour for the arm on strats, and at the same time having the contour at the back of the guitar to my lowest rib. :D

You ever seen where Jeff Beck holds his guitar? Very high.
And you can't argue with his ability.
It's all about personal comfort.
And if you play cool, you'll look cool.
So set it where it feels, and plays, best for you.
Hell, play it behind your head if it feels right!

I bought a strap the other day after quite a while of not buying a strap and found that I had to wear it backwards because the darn thing was so long that the buckle of the new strap was on my shoulder instead of my mid back. Granted, I tend to wear my guitar higher than what has been deemed "cool" these days, but the fact that I couldn't find a shorter strap tells me that hanging it low is certainly en vogue these days. Perhaps I should petition Ernie Ball or Fender to produce shorter straps for those of us inclined to hang it like Robert Cray or Sonny Landreth.

Being a guy who's not exactly thin - even when my waist size was a 36 in highschool, I was barrel chested. Long straps don't appear all that long on me. The longest strap I could find for my Gibson's is at it's longest and is at just the right height for me. The stock adjustable strap that comes with my strat is the first guitar strap I owned that had to be shortened up to put in a comfortable position.

In case anyone doesn't remember from a few pages back, I like my guitars so the middle of the body is just above the belt line.

Wore it very high for many years, until a few months ago when I finally stopped using a pick completely and went completely fingerstyle. Much more comfortable hanging pretty low for that sort of thing for me, as it lets my right hand completely relax.

Odd thing is, I've also found myself being more animated when I play with the guitar lower - just sort of naturally happened enough to be commented on.

Forget about how low your git hangs, if you want to be cool, you need hair gel.

- It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.

When I was younger my guitars hung to where the strings were basically between my waist and crotch, with the strings just above the crotch. For the last 10 years my guitar has hung where the tummy curve is at the bottom of my stomach. That puts the strings just below my waist.
