Hi guys ive recently bought a strat neck from a mate and my floyd rose locking nut doesnt sit straight when put in place. It is uneven where the nut meets the first fret. Ive given it a bit of a sand/file and have got it damn close but not quite, is there a way to get this bugga straight like a knack to it or something? Any advice would be great and muchly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Be careful filing or sanding the end of the fretboard. If you alter this area, it will permanently ruin your intonation. If your guitar tunes up, but won't play in tune when chording on the first few frets, you may have over-done it. If you don't understand scale length and what makes instruments play in tune, you should take the guitar to someone who does. OR do you mean just the locking lug turns a little after being tightened down? If that is the case, just forget about it, they all turn a little after being cranked down tight.

I agree. If I cannot get a part in on the first go, it goes to the shop for a professional.

I've seen many a guitar with factory Floyds having a slight 'air' run-off on one side or the other between the locking nut and the beginning edge of the fingerboard. They were left that way for a reason. As has been repeatedly stated, to file, sand or whatever for the sake of the locking nut flushing up against the beginning of the fingerboard can affect critical fingerboard length dimensions, thus messing up intonation by shortening the board too much. On the "up side", even if you went to far, shims of like wood would have to be cut, shaped and glued to bring the appropriate length back. Your absolute best bet here is to bring it to a COMPETENT pro for evaluation and remedy, if required.
