Right, but Guitar_Fiend has also did mention of EMGs on his post !

Yes, he did, but the OP did not ask about EMGs. Why confuse the OP with unnecessary information?

I mentioned EMG's when pointing out that the nature of what the S1 actually does, it should be possible to use whatever pickup you like.

Then someone questioned the EMG's because they are an active pickup and any known examples of the S1 are with passive designs. That's how we got on the subject.

It might not specifically help the OP as he wants to know about Texas Specials, which was answered by myself and others before me. And to repeat it, yes, the Texas Specials should work fine with an S1, just as any other pickup should because all the S1 does is affect what pickups are selected with the 5 way switch and whether they are in series or parallel with each other.

Someone else that is reading and wondering about the EMG's with an S1 as an option might find this info useful. It should also work, but best to consult EMG to ensure there is no specific way that it needs to be done to prevent damage to the active circuitry.

Howdy!

Regarding EMG active pickups with Fenders S-1 Switching... I don't think it will work.

The ground wire on an EMG active pickup is also the power ground as they have the preamp built in to the pickup, so it can't be used to make the necessary series connections the S-1 switch provides.

As far as an active systems goes, I do have an S-1 equipped Strat wired with the Clapton Mid-boost kit. Sounds chunky! :D

Hope this helps.

Andy

Edit: typo.

This might not be the case for the EMG Selects, which are passive.
