I was taking a closer look at the demo of "Seymour Duncan Everything Axe" set. After listening for a while, I agree if I switch them into my strat, my strat won't sound any better and won't sound anything like a strat anymore, and that would be pointless and defeat the purpose of buying a strat in the first place.

After doing more research on other different brands of pickup, I came across Lindy Fralin's pickup. And was thinking of the "Split-Blade Blues Output" set, then a friend of mine who's a guitarist as well (he plays blues) suggested that no matter what hum-bucking pickup will get you no hum but it's just going to suck the sound of a strat. And so he recommended the "Lindy Fralin Blues Special" set. And I'm probably going with his suggestion. My question is:

1) Personally I still don't like the buzzing noise, but I'm going with single coil pickup so I don't lose the sound of a strat. However, I heard there's sth like "shielding" or sth... that could decrease the buzzing of a normal single-coil pickup by a lot? In other words, is there some ways to make a single-coil pickup buzz less?

2) Anyone has experience with "Lindy Fralin Blues Special"? How does it compare to "Fender Texas Special"? I'm looking for More dynamic, more punchy, more output, fatter and fuller solid tone than my current "Fender 57 Reissue Stratocaster Made In Japan Since 1993" 's original pickup. For style of music from playing clean blues, funk, jazz, to rock.

3) I saw on Lindy Fralin's official website, there's an option to add in Base plate and Blender Pot, I don't quite understand what's that for?

4) My guitarist friend said that if I buy the Lindy Fralin blues special, the middle pickup is reverse wound. So no matter how bad the amp is, in 2 & 4 position there won't be a hum. The reverse wound will act like a humbucker pickup, and still sound like a strat? I don't quite understand what's a "reverse wound"...?

BTW. Some of you probably know from my previous thread that I use a Roland Micro Cube Amp at home which is just for practicing and traveling, and I understand with a cube amp I won't be able to tell the difference after changing the pickup. BUT, I do jam with my band mates almost everyday at school where there is Marshall tube amp. So, it does make a difference if I change my pickup.

Well, I don't know the Fralin PUs but I'd like to comment on "HBs sucking the sound of a strat".

If you have the chance, check out the Tonerider Generator pickups.
They're normal sized HBs but sound like single coils with a bit more bottom, not as powerful as assumed when thinking of HBs.
I didn't like the thin sound of my '86 strat and put in the Toneriders which I had laying around and hadn't checked out yet. I was surprised and there was still strat character!

Tonerider generally is considered to deliver very good sounds for much less money. I'd consider them a secret hint and expect to hear from them more often in the futere.

They build SCs as well.

You've asked a lot of questions in a single post. Better for you to ask a single question. If a responder has to answer all the questions, with the required long answers, they're more like to just move on. IMO

With regard to humbuckers sucking all the tone out. Rubbish. There are plenty of good noiseless pickups that give good sound. Just ask Clapton.

I like the Dimarzio Area pickups. C'mon, it's 2012, why should our guitars buzz? My previous pickups in my guitar were the Lindy Fralin Vintage (non-humbucking). Sounded real nice. And hummed. I went back to the Dimarzio Area pups like I had in a previous guitar, which gave me the perspective of having had some "holy grail" single coils and some major maker noiseless in the same guitar. I like the sound of the Dimarzios, and really don't hear any sacrifice in tone. I actually like their sound a little better, and not just because they don't buzz.

Use your own ears, and beware of opinions like "suck the sound" out of a guitar.

Oh...and a quick search on this forum will probably answer your other questions.

If you want to hear a strat with Lindy Fralin blues specials go see Aynsley Lister if your in the UK.

Seen him a few times and his sound is wonderful. Helps that hes a brill guitarist as well.

As for the base plate, isnt that an option "usually" on the bridge pup to give a slightly fuller sound??

Reverse wound (and reverse pole) middle pups will all but kill the mains buzz from single coils in pos 2 and 4 without usually harming the strat sound at all or not much depending who you believe. I have 1 guitar with Bare Knuckle pups that are not RW/RP and are supposed to give a tiny bit more tradional sound whatever that means according to BK's information.

As a coincidence the pups taken out were Texas specials but only to release them for another guitar and give the guitar a 50's "sound" to go with its appearance.

IMO

Hi I have owned quit a few strats in my 35 years of playing. I bought a set of Lindy's Blues specials installed in my 91 Strat Plus the sound was good but I wanted to go back to the Lace pickup's and sold off my B.S. that night so the next day I installed my lace's and sounded like crap. I just realized I had sold the best pickups I have ever owned. So I picked up a set of Lindy's Vintage Hots and was not happy with the sound. I ended up selling them off and tried some Lollar's Black Face they sounded like crap to me. So as of a couple month's ago I ordered a set of Blues Specials and have been happy since I have swapped the loaded pick guard into my CIJ Strat and they have been there since the sound is so sweet I will never give them up again!!!!! Any Strat I own I will swap my B.S. into and I know they will sound great. IMO they are the best sounding pickups out there.
