I recently inherited an Elite Strat. I am aware that these were only made for about a year before Fender was sold by CBS(?) Anyway, I was wondering if anybody could give me information about the instrument, seeing as how there is not much online about it other than what I already wrote.

I think it qualifies as vintage, and if not it soon will. In terms of vintage guitars, I had another question for you Fender faithful. When keeping an guitar as an investment, is it wise to alter it at all? For monetary value, for instance, does the guitar's value go down if, say, the strings were changed? I am pretty sure that everything on this guitar stayed the same since 1983 or 84. The strings have seen better days, and I would like to change them, but in fear of the guitar losing value, I am hesitant.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Rock on.

Hello Babbo1447,

'83 was the year of the one I sold recently,
I bought it new back in the day, sunburst w/maple board.
I never really got into it,hence the perfect condition 25 yrs later.
I sold it for $1500 and a pocketknife. :D

Absolutely change the strings, you'll loose nothing
and it'll sound way better.
'83 was the best year and quality suffered in following years.
Many people love these strats but not me.

Cheers.

TREAT YOURSELF TO A COPY OF TOM WHEELER'S BOOK 'THE STRATOCASTER CHRONICLES' AND TURN TO PAGE 187. ANOTHER GREAT SOURCE IS 'THE FENDER STRATOCASTER' BY A.R. DUCHOSSOIR.

MANDOLIN BROTHERS, ON STATEN ISLAND, NY MIGHT BE A GO TO PLACE FOR INFO ON WHAT YOU MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT WANT TO DO TO THAT GUITAR.

HOW DID YOU COME BY IT??
