Yes I have a tip. Don't use anything with abrasive in it and don't rub very hard or very often. Under that thin gold finish is a chrome finish that is straining at the reins with all its might trying to get out and it will use whatever excuse you give it to poke through and say hello.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

WIpe the metal finish down with a microfiber or soft cloth and use no polishes. As mentioned prior, polishes are usually abrasive and will remove the plating.

If it's really dirty use soap and water, otherwise microfiber cloth should do the job.

Yes, microfiber cloth!! Gently!!

That's why I hate gold hardware, no matter how beautyful it looks at the beginning. It wears off really fast and becomes ugly (others might call it vintage relic, ha ha ha)

Yeah, my old Ibanez AF-120 archtop had gold hardware and within a couple years, the humbuckers and trapeze tailpiece had a "relic'ed" look. The gold was pretty much worn off where I would rest the heel of my hand on the sides of the pickup. I actually think that can look cool, like when you see the rare old Les Paul or ES-175 or whatever that actually gets taken out of the vault and played. But yeah, I wouldn't use any type of polish, just do your best with a microfiber cloth and try to wipe the sweat/oils from your fingers off at the end of your session.
