I see them pretty often on the *bay but I've never had one in my hands. I'd be interested to hear, what they're like???

My first Strat was a Korean Squier back in 1990 - Still my favourite Strat neck out of all the many Strats I have owned since. Long since lost the body after it got replaced years ago though! Played many gigs with it during my early years of playing, seem to recall it holding up pretty well soundwise.

That neck is now on an 80's Fender Japan hardtail body and still feels like an old friend.

I have a Korean Koa Top Strat. I bought it to use as a test bed for trying new pups and parts and that's exactly what I did so it's pretty hotrodded up now.

I have the exact same guitar as BMW-KTM but as standard. Got it in 2004. I played another a while later which wasnt quite as nice so like many guitars they can vary a bit.

Its quite heavy. Sounds mellow and plays well.

Are you 100% positive you bought yours in 1987? The Fender Product Dating Page indicates they began making instruments in Korea in 1988.

An issue I have had with owning my guitar is that even though they are fairly well made instruments there's almost no way to pin point when they were made. Back in the day I did not concern myself with these things and truth be told it doesn't really bother me that I don't know the year my Strat was made but these days people ask and I don't have a good answer except to say sometime between 1988 and 1996 but I bought it new in the store in 2002.

I have a Squier Bullet Series Strat from the 90's that is made in Korea. The body is made from what appears to be plywood, and everything about it is pretty much junk. It is now in pieces in my music room, pretty much the worst guitar I've ever played.

But it was pretty cool when I got it back then, it was my first electric guitar, pile of junk or not.

I'm guessing it was made at the Samick plant? The reason I ask is I picked up a Squire II that was unique to me that was made at the Korean Samick Plant in 89. It's the best playing and sounding Squire I've ever played. Even out plays my MIM Strat.

You are right. It was in 1988 and I got it at Reliable Music in Charlotte, NC. The only way you'd know it was Korean, is the small decay right under the Strat name. It's Hawaiian Blue and it i heavy, but plays very well. I'll try to post a pic. Thanks! :How to post a pic, Brad?

I have a late 80's Squire HM III from Korea. I love it.

Hello,

I purchased a MIK lite ash Fender Strat. Gold logo on headstock, made in Korea written on back of the headstock.

Guitar is natural color, with black pickgard. 3 Seymour Duncan. S/N 04121407
I searched many site for information about S/N and can't find any :(

My guitar is identical to this one. Picture is only for you to see.

Can anyone help me find more information about my guitar?

Hi !
Benoitm , I bought a similar 'Lite Ash' last month!
It's a fantastic axe - it sounds very 'woody' and sparkling sharp. I think the pups must have a pretty high output ,as it is easy to make the amp 'break up' when using it.
The looks of it is also very great-abalone inlays, birdseye maple neck. If you look at Fender support side , you will find lists of dating this. Mine has no prefix before serial number , but it might be worn out, as it is not even possible to read 'made in Korea'. But the number is readable, and it looks like mine is from 2005/2006. Yours appears to be from -04/05. Fender also mentions, on the support side, that the instruments were made at the Cort factory. This is taken from the support site :

KC98 + 6 digits
1998-1999
KC99 + 6 digits 1999-2000
KC00 + 6 digits 2000-2001
KC01 + 6 digits 2001-2002
KC02 + 6 digits 2002-2003
KC03 + 6 digits 2003-2004
KC04 + 6 digits 2004-2005
KC05 + 6 digits 2005-2006
KC06 + 6 digits 2006-2007
KC07 + 6 digits 2007-2008
KC08 + 6 digits 2008-2009
KC09 + 6 digits 2009-2010
KC10 + 6 digits 2010-2011
KC11 + 6 digits 2011-2012
KC12 + 6 digits 2012

Enjoy Your Guitars , Guys ! :D

Thanks Keith,

I appreciate your answer. It's just weird that the letter wear out and the rest look like brand new???

From the little time I spent with my guitar, I can say that it is indeed a nice soundind axe. But I might change the pickups for Texas specials. I was suprised by the tone of the guitar vs. the weight. Especially for a Strat.

The salesman was telling me that the body was comparable to custom shops, tremolo of higher end US strat and bird eye neck... So smooth.

When I told the salesman that I was suspecting the build date to be 2004, he told me that it was older than that? So that just confirm what I was thinking.

Thanks again.
