Sounds reasonable. That was a strange time period for Fender and Japan, think Tokai. Possible that there were hundreds, even thousands of necks from 79 that were never made into Ann necks (markings), and then used on later models. But I would expect a serial number on the headstock if this were true, which was absent from this example. Every other one of the international colored Strats that I could find had a headstock serial number. The international colors were available in '81 to 83? Not '79, which the body was supposedly verified to be.

Was the little piece of paper in the neck pocket supposed to have been the serial number decal or something? It looked strange and I saw no "matching serial numbers" as stated. I think that your assessment of a partscaster is likely (at best). This one just seems somewhat fishy to me, doesn't add up.

ok ill put the clip back up. I read it from a Fender dealer site the Sahara Taupe was made from the anniversary parts. It all fits but the parts were not marked anniversary. Im satisfied I cant find any other explanation the body labeling is real EO and 5 digits made between 1979 and 1981 the neck speaks for itself. As far as Im concerned the Sahara Taupe would rank as a legend...the last headstock guitar with no bullet.
Its not crazy that Fender turned the Anniversary into a production guitar the anniversary is a classic. And really when you build a limited edition guitar you dont have that many parts left...google Sahara Taupe not many for sale. Im really impressed with these all maple vintage necks the new necks just dont compare the action on this thing is so low without buzz that Hendrix would have a field day with it. Am loading the clip again brb new link up soon

That's cool vinnypop1, great for other eyes to see. I would also be interested to hear from someone at Fender about this.

P.S.
I've not seen a Fender body with a piece of paper on it with what looks like a serial number. No serial number on the headstock is equally weird. :?:

This is from stratcollector.com

'' Apart from their colors, they're basically a 1976 Stratocster with the exception of the Sahara Taupe model that has a four bolt, no bullet design.''

This is from another Fender history site
'' 1980: Small adhesive labels with Month-Day-Year date stamps appeared in the neck pocket, pickup cavity and/or back of the neck.''

The International Color Series Stratocasters all had 3 bolt necks.
Sahara Taupe was a custom color in 1980/81/82 and there are some Stratocasters out there having a 4 bolt neck though.

Cheers,
Robin

International Color Stratocasters Special custom colors: Arctic White; Morocco Red; Monaco Yellow; Maui Blue; Capri Orange; Sahara Taupe; Cathay Ebony; Sienna Sunburst; and, Cherry Sunburst. Note: unlike the other eight, the Sahara Taupe has a four bolt neck and non-bullet headstock, considered by many to be made from left over parts of the Anniversary Stratocaster..

It's important to note that a few of those lurid International finishes are still offered since the post-CBS era.

For example Arctic White is a colour option for the MIM Standards, Sienna Sunburst for the USA Standards and Cherry Sunburst for the early Sambora signatures and a few Squier Deluxes.

There are also several CS creations finished in Capri Orange such as a master build 62 Strat crafted by Greg Fessler.

I' ve just bought a Sahara Taupe hardtail on an auction. 3-bolt neck. Totaly untouched in very nice condition. Sticker in neckpocket matches up with S9 serial on headstock. Also have a date? sticker (11 20 80) in the mid pickup cavity. Pots dated 1378029. Awsome piece of early 80's Stratocaster history! Plays and sounds superbly well and I love the color!

Some pics of my first "big headstock" strat (I thought I would never ever say that I like it but now that I actually have one I must say that I like it a lot!) I love this color despite that some people will refer it as poop. Either way it's not the most common which I like.
