some time a back i was in a restaurant where they had a guy playing live guitar music
he was using a laptop thru his amp and it was playing a background beat, that complimented his guitar playing

I do that at home!

I have a Boss BR-1200 CD recording station. I record backing tracks off YouTube (they're for free and cleared for download) simply using the headphone output of my PC and the line in on the Boss.

Then the line out of the boss goes into the amp's input. Guitar is played via a Boss GT-10 (for sounds and effects) into the Boss BR-1200 CD without using the BR's effects or sounds. It goes right through the BR-1200 uneffected to the amp. One could use the BR's sounds of corse but I liked the GT-10 better. The BR has the sounds of the predecessor GT-8 only)

I recorded this video that way (amp was miked with a Shure SM57 back into the BR):

Disadvantage: you have ALL the sound going through just ONE mono speaker.

I've changed the setup now as follows:

Boss BR-1200 with backing track as above but now played via active stereo PC speakers with subwoofer (I used a second amp, Voxh Night Train at first but now I'm selling tha cabinet). Nice'n fat tone! Then I play the guitar track with a Fender Cyber Twin which stands right next to the pc speakers. Advantage: Backing track and guitar sound are separate which makes the guitar sound clearer defined.

You could do gigs with this setup pretty easily, as long as the speakers are powerful enough for a small club, pub, whatever. I've played on several smaller occasions. People liked it but it feels kinda weird standing there alone. I prefer a band but if you haven't one, what the heck, go for it. It's fun anyway!! :)

I've downloaded backing tracks to my iTunes which I play through my Boss eBand and jam along to. Check out Youtube links for the eBand, it's a cracking little bit of kit.

i like the eband setb up
i am a bedroom guitar player beginner
was reading some reviews and most spoke of the poor quality speakers
is this really an issue?
is it really that bad?

i do not intend to use it in clubs,

I've not any issues with mine at all but it's not really a gigging tool, just a cracking practice tool.
