So, I'm on my way making a clapton strat out of my MIM strat. After all that hustle I got my vintage noiseless pickups installed correctly. Now, I need to install my Clapton mid boost kit, however, i'm hesitating on this because I might make mistakes on wiring and soldering (if this is needed because I'm not sure).
So for people out there who have experience installing the mid boost kit. Is it hard? and any tips on installing?

So, "hard" is relative. If you had trouble installing the pickups than I'd say yes, it may be hard for you as there surely is even more wiring and soldering involved than just that of installing a set of VNs. Further, there's the issues of where and how to accommodate the 9V battery. The only tips at this point would be for you to continue practicing your soldering on scrap components and keep reading and rereading the preamp's installation instructions/diagram until you are thoroughly familiar/confident with the task before you attempt to outright take it on.

I agree with Martian. I have done a lot of custom work and have installed these several times. The first time tried installing one of these, with the wiring diagram right in front of me, I still got the TBX wired wrong and had a oscillator thing going through the amp. Was really weird. Swapped a few wires ad presto! (hey I have Lysdexia....I mean Dyslexia so that could be part of my problem).

If you have little experience with a soldering iron you could run into problems. You have to have a hot iron and the right solder— and experience. Look through some of the build threads on the Forum and get some tips.

Here is one:

Yes, I'll say it, it's hard.

I've done two of them. Converted a Powerhouse to the Clapton specs with TBX tone, Noiseless pickups and removing the two resistors. The second one was using the Clapton kit and it was harder because I didn't have a body with a circuit board route and the board won't fit in the control cavity with the longer TBX tone pot. (I put it in the trem cavity after extending the wires.)

It's hard because the wiring diagram (http://support.fender.com/service_diagr ... ISD.pdf%20) on Fenders web site doesn't use color for the circuit board wiring and the diagram you get with the kit is even worse The brown and violet wires are too similar in average light and I had switched these on my second build.

Which is not to say that it's not doable. Just get the diagram, some color sharpies to highlight each wire on the diagram in color, then make a notation for each wire and where each end is soldered to. Since you've got the pickups in, that's half the battle. Block off about a half hour, open a beer, keep the cat from jumping on the table, be patient and it'll go great.

As far as soldering, I learned this the hard way, but keep a damp sponge next to your soldering iron to wipe the tip with periodically. As long as the soldering tip is clean and shiny with a thin layer of solder coating it, it'll heat up a lot faster.

Thanks guys for all the replies
Since, I'm not all that good at soldering and wiring guess I'll just hand the job over to a luthier nearby.
Thanks!!

On behalf of us all, you're welcome but make sure that the person you take it to is competent.
