The pups on my 2004 50th Ann. Strat are based on the original 54s as far as I know and they are incredible pickups with great power and presence and brilliant clarity when played clean but they get very snarly in an overdrive situation. You definitely couldn't go wrong with them.

Just based on my experience with the Antiquity II (Surfer) set, I would highly recommend checking out the Seymour Duncan Antiquity "Texas Hots".

I've got those.....the "Texas Hots".....odd name for a '50's style pickup but I'm very happy with them. Maybe the best sounding set of pickups I own.

You could hunt down a set of "Custom 50's", not to be confused with Fat 50's, which are still good. They were (and perhaps still are?) available on Custom Shop models, and can't be bought aftermarket. You could try scoring a set on the 'bay.

I've got a set of those in my CS '56 Time Machine Strat. I always assumed they were the same as the CS '54 Strat pickups. Do you know if they're different than the CS '54's? I mean I'm sure they're fairly similar, but every time I tried to find out exactly which pickups were in my guitar, it always said "Custom '50's". So I was never sure if you could buy them separately.
