It's recommended that you use whatever you like.

Super slinkys here on both of my Strats, although I've run as high as 15 gauge on some of my archtops. It's really about what feels right to you for that particular guitar.

is there a reason for Fender listing Light strings and not giving a range to use in

ELIXIR NANO WEB 009 or 010 sets forever!!!!

They have to put something on the guitars. They feel (9s0 are the middle ground solution. Some prefer 10s, 11s or even 8s.
Put what you want on yours, you might have to adjustion the intonation a bit.

I personnally use Ernie Ball Super Slinkys (9s) on my Strat and Tele Custom II
and use Ernie Ball Slinkys (10s) on my Hwy One Tele because of the Jumbo frets.
They are cheap, sound good and last a long time.

Your choice also depends on the sound you're looking for.
There are some subtle and some resplendent differences that you will find by experimenting with a variety of strings.

I like the medium gauge (.011-.049) pure nickle round for their feel and sound.
And I just have a bad case of brand loyalty, so I always stick with Fender,
in particular, the "150-" product line.
However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of the other suggestions the others have offered.
But that's a personal choice and eventually you'll find what feels and sounds right for you.

Also, when you start varying your string gauge, you'll eventually want to start getting familiar with minor routine guitar set-ups (such as bridge, truss rod, etc.) as string gauge can have some effect on these.

One word of warning (as some helpful folks here can tell you):
I ignorantly broke two guide nuts recently by using a string gauge that was to heavy
(basically, the strings were too fat for the slots).

Strings are cheap, so experiment a little. :)

For what it's worth...After 20+years of playing, I just fell in love with the Fender Jazz Mediums (13s). I have them on my American Standard and my Yamaha accoustic. They actually improved the dynamic range on the accoustic and I love the way they play on the strat.

I decided to be a fanboy and put 10g Super bullets in,I like them they have a darker sound than the original strings had on it,I guess because they were 9g strings,I like more of a brighter sound in my guitars but I did notice these super bullets have better sustain 8)
