My main strat has been tricked out, my back up is a CV 60's, which I have a soft spot for, but not crazy about the neck. I'm thinking about either getting one really nice guitar like a AVRI 57 and make my current the back up and the CV 60's my slide guitar. I have also though about a pair of classic 50's (in Daphne and 2TB) modding them with VN steel block bone nut and making my current main a slide guitar. I have also though about just getting a MIM standard have it worked on and a MIM standard tele using the the remaining money for another amp with tremolo.

So thoughts?

MMM... If I had that much right now to spend on one guitar, I'd probably think about finally adding something with Les Paul's name on the headstock (no, not a Studio) to my stable.

Out of the choices listed, I like the idea of getting just one really nice guitar like the '57 Reissue, and just cherishing the heck out of it for a long time. Plus, that way you should at least have a couple hundred bucks left over for, I don't know, a pedal or two, or to save towards a new amp. Good luck.

Part of my problem with a LP would be the weight. I have problems with my legs from the lymph system shutting down in my legs. So i have to be careful when playing how much weight I have strapped on me Also I have broken more then one Les Paul head stock through drunks on stage.

how about build something, that is always fun.
you got the money for all the parts, plus i think you value it a bit more when you build it.
it gives you a bit of pride, more so when it turns out perfect.

Well, since you asked in a strat forum. If I have 2K, and was after a strat, I would go for an American Deluxe Strat and take advantage of that 15% off at GC this weekend (might have to shop for a clean one). Use the left over to pick something else up.

I just can't do the AVRI. Truss rod adjustment turns me off on those.

Gc is a no go. I have posted about it. Will never buy from them again, even though I have a credit and a discount waiting for me.

I can certainly respect that. I also agree with you, to a point (I just can't pass up killer deals, and they can be had there). I went through 4 different LPs from them until I got one that was "right".

I got my last Ash Strat at my local Mom and Pop. A lot of them make their money for the year of off instrument rentals for the schools, so when GC has a deal like this, they will usually match it if you are a regular customer(I am a student at mine so..). They gave me a great deal on mine new.

GC didn't want to price match and then after sticking to my guns they didn't really keep to their policy. They could be giving away a '59 Bassman RI with the purchase of a new Squier Bullet and I would still buy someplace else.

Yeah, it is a little bit of a pain. You get used to it though. Just throw a capo on the first fret and you can keep the strings on. More time-consuming than the headstock adjustment, of course, but still a pretty quick job.

How often do you adjust the truss rod? That's like saying I'd never buy an electirc becuase swapping out the pups is too much trouble.

During the spring and fall in the Midwest. A bit. And for me, there are better options out there than the AVRIs. They're nice, but I don't put a lot of personal value in the re-issues.

Now, an original '57? That's a different story.
