I just bought a beautiful 2001 MIA standard Strat, the previous owner must have been a smoker, the guitar has a slight smoke smell. Any ideas how I can get rid of the smell?

maybe try a box of baking soda and keep in the case compartment? might absorb some of the smoke smell.

Coffee powder takes away smells (works in the the fridge as well).
Put an open plastic box with coffee powder into the guitar case (make sure not to tilt the closed case afterwards, it would be a mess!! ).
Keep it in the case for a couple of days.

Alternative: start smoking, ha ha ha.

+1
That really works, coffee powder is great.
Now play some Smoke On The Water first.

Cheers,
Robin

My guitars get a good dose of smoke with every gig,I clean them with Dunlop 65 polish, and put a Bounce dryer sheet in the case, also in the bottom of the amps.
If you're not giging in bars or don't smoke the smell will wear off eventually.

I used to play the heavy smoking bars a lot back in the 90s. Iowa no longer allows smoking in bars - hooray! But the other day I opened an old cord case that I haven't used in ages... and the bar smoke stench just rolled out of it! Eventually, with plenty of exposure to open air, the smoke stink goes away.

I bought a les paul custom about 5 years ago.... it really had a strong marijuana odor... no $@!&.... It took about 1 year for the smell to completely go away... But keep in mind, you have to keep your guitar outside of its case...Either on a stand or wall hanger...

The case still smells like weed... But that ok by me since I never use the case...

The powdery remains of roasted and grinded coffee beans.
Usually used to brew a dark brown drinkable fluid called "coffee" by pouring hot boiling water (chemical name H2O, the very wet material which covers over 90% of our planet's surface) over the powder mentioned above. Some use filters to keep the powder out of the hot water to get the flavor only, some don't.

This dark brown liquid can be served in cups and other drinking vessels suitable for absorbtion of fluids by human beings
(lat.: h_omo sapiens) to provide nutrition or just the pleasure of tasting for the biological hull (=body) of said human beings.

Hope that helps?
