I just started playing last Nov. I currently have a Squire Affinity HSS but want to upgrade to a "real" Fender with a Floyd Rose. Can anyone recommend a decent model, budget is appx 600.
Thanks,
Don

Not much to choose from in a Fender... just the standard.

Fender company Jacksons and Charvels are really out there price-wise but positively gorgeous instruments.

Wish I had better new. Check Craigs' list and Ebay.

It's the bottom of the Fender food chain. I have a standard from 2000. Actually, today's' standard had a rework a year or so ago and would be much better than mine so hard to say.

I like my MIM standard and would not part with it!

Standards are pretty good but they are made in Mexico and are on the bottom rung of genuine Fender Stratocasters. In the Standards they have an HSS Floyd Rose model retailing for $724.99 in the new '08 catalog. I did a quick search of all the major on-line music stores (AMS, Musician's Friend, Sam Ash, Zzsound, Guitar Center) a few months back when I was still in the process of selecting my new guitar. None featured a Floyd Rose equipped model in their on-line catalogs so I couldn't give you a street price. A regular Standard HSS sells for $399.99 street price which is $200.00 less than Fender's MSRP so you can extrapolate using that baseline. I couldn't find a higher end Strat with Floyd Rose in the new 2008frontline_instore-DOMESTIC.pdf catalog. But the real question is how to get one. You might have to special order one from one of your local music stores.

Hi Don, I purchased a Standard Strat last fall and I love it. I recomend this guitar for all beginner and intermediate players. If you shop around you can get a Standard for about $400. Marshall
