Hi everyone,

I've been on the forum for a while now making the occaisional post and reading the plethora of information on this forum. Please forgive the length of this post...there is a lot to cover.

I got the guitar bug last year and couldn't decide on which guitar to get. After going back and forth for weeks I decided to get a Les Paul Studio Faded Cherry. I love the satin finish of the neck and body. The tone is really nice and it plays well. However, I never really bonded with it. The neck profile (50's) is too thick for me to play while standing.

Fast forward to yesterday. I've been GAS'ing and saving for quite a while to get an American Standard. Yesterday, I finally got the guitar I always wanted. It plays great but I plan on getting some David Allen Voodoo Blues pickups soon.

Without further adieu...

Honestly I don't know. I'd have to leave that up to the more experienced members of this forum. I believe there were changes made to the saddles, but I'm not 100% sure.

Paul you're right about the saddles. In 2008 when the American Series was renamed the The American Standard one of the changes Fender made was the conversion to stamped steel saddles from the cast saddles on the American Series. Congrats on your new guitar. :D

I, too, got a new Stratocaster recently. I replaced my 2005 MIM (Agave, rosewood fretboard, tortoise pickguard - beautiful!!) with a 2002 American Standard sunburst with rosewood fretboard and aged white pickguard. This is just personal preference, of course, but you might like the look of the instrument even better with the aged pickguard; I just think the white is too, well, WHITE! But it's a great instrument either way!

Oh, and added a Tweed NOS Blues Jr. LE, too, both the guitar and strat on Craigslist. Strat for $520 with FHSC and Jr. for D$350 including footswitch. Don't we all get all warm an fuzzy inside when we get new toys?

Congrats man, that's a great first Strat. I'm also a new Am. Std. Strat owner. Same exact one in fact with a little darker and more reddish burst. Check out my pic. Got it during the Fender sale a few months ago.

Those Alnico V pups are the strongest of the Alnico series. Before ripping them out, spend some time with them. Personally, they give me all the great blues and rock tones I need, including Clapton, Hendrix, Gallagher, Trower, and Kubek. Depending on what type of music you play, you may want to explore some OD / Booster pedals, or look at a different amp first. Just my $.02.

Either way, I love mine as it is, and it's now my # 1 Strat.

Congrats. No guitar collection is complete without at least one Strat. We all know you'll never regret it.

How's that Seagull sound? Godin and it's affiliate companies make some pretty good entry level gear. Is that a cedar top? I bet it's a keeper.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Beautiful Strat. My teacher has David Allan pickups in his strat and LP. They sound really nice. I'm not sure if they're the Voodoo Blues or a different model. I'm looking for an LP Studio right now, I think I'm going to stick with a '50's neck but I'm still debating on giving the slim '60's a try.

The Seagull is great. I am amazed at how rich and warm the tone is. The neck is super smooth. I really like it.

Thanks for all of the comments and best wishes. I'm having a great time with her!
