Just bought an Amer. Deluxe HSS after 35 years away from playing. Plan on a few newbie questions from me. The tremolo bar is a bit difficult to remove. Is it OK to leave the bar on the guitar when putting in the case that came with the guitar or must I remove it everytime before putting the guitar away?

If Your case is a hardshell I probably would, because it would just dive bomb the guitar and thats fine, but after awhile it would wear on one or several parts of the inside of the case.

If You plan on being a daily or weekly player just get a stand so You wont have to crack open the case every hour, day or week!

Hope this helps?

Welcome back in the Strat owners' world and congrats for getting a new Strat.

I would NOT leave the trem arm in the guitar all the time, when storing the Strat away in its case, because the trem springs will steadily be on "dive bomb tension". That might reduce spring tension after a longer period of time until you finally have to exchange the springs. Not expensive but can be avoided.

Second: it will wear out the inner parts of your case.

Third: you might have to retune the guitar whenever taking it out of the case, if it was divebombed for a longer time.

I ALWAYS remove the trem arm!!

Did you ever notice when you look at brand-new strats at the store that there is a little sticker over the trem hole? I just assumed that it was to keep debris out of the hole...wrong!
They put that there because there is supposed to be a little spring inside the hole that the trem bar threads in to.
So...if you are going to be removing the trem arm, be careful to not lose the little spring...or go to your tech and grab an extra spring or two.

My spring popped out. Do I just put it back in the trem hole?

I've got an Am Deluxe and, on mine, it does take a bit of effort to remove the trem bar but so far removing it hasn't caused a problem... When inserting the trem bar, it goes in part way pretty easy. Then, when you push it in all the way, it kinda clicks in. Then, to get past that point when removing the bar, I do have to use a bit of force.

Rapaul...yes, just put the spring back in the hole!

I didn't even know they had a spring in there until I was told by a tech that the threaded trem arms have a spring down inside so that you can thread the arm in and tighten it against the spring so it doesn't just flop around and doesn't bottom-out in the hole. (I bought my guitar used and the spring wasn't there.)

It really makes a difference! I was so used to my Gretsch's Bigsby that the Fender trem arm was just annoying me to no end, until I found this out. Now I like it!

Also, from what I'm reading here, there is obviously another type of trem arm that isn't threaded...it sort of clicks or snaps in?

I also just bought my first strat, an American deluxe HSS. I really love it, cant seem to put it down until my fingers a sore :D

I noticed the same thing about removing the trem, but I just give it a good pull and it pops out pretty well. I do notice the the output from the humbucker seems high compared to the other pups and I have to adjust the volume when switching between them. Is that typical of the HSS models?

Cheers
