It there a way to authenticate this?

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/ms ... 59836.html

Assuming this is genuine, is 2k a fair price?

An email to mroberts@fender.com or post the question to the Custom Shop Forum. Also to www.xhefriguitars.com. It would help if you had the serial number. I'd say 2K was a steal if confirmed. Just look at it!!

ZZDoc just PM me. Anyhow these are for real. Only way I would buy this is to look at it first and make sure it is not a scam of some sort where he wants to ship the guitar to you and you pay by Western Union or something. These guys will post a guitar and then say something like, "Sorry I am in UK right now on business and I have a friend selling this for me and he will ship it to you." Like ya, sure. But it you can see the guitar and the paperwork, they made these and $2000 is a fair price. Here is what the Blue Book of Guitars says:

SET NECK STRATOCASTER (U.S. MFG. NO. 010-2700) - ash body, highly figured book-matched maple top, set-in maple neck, 22-fret ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, Fender Deluxe vibrato, LSR roller nut, locking tuners, chrome hardware, 2 Texas Special single coil/Seymour Duncan JB humbucker pickups, volume/2 tone controls, 5-position switch, available in Antique Burst or Natural finishes, mfg.1992-98. In 1998, rosewood fingerboard replaced the ebony fingerboard. In 1995 mahogany body replaced ash. There are different pickup variations available such as Lace pickups. This model has an optional gold hardware with Brite White finish.

These were considered a Neck Set Ultra Custom Shop. I have always wanted one but could not find one. BUT there is something odd about this add. Fender NEVER put a Red Lace in the middle on these and a dually gold in the bridge. NEVER. The specs he gives is a bot messed up and makes me suspicious. And what is with all the meta words on the bottom of the add? 9.5 strings? ummm I wonder :? :? :?

This guitar, or one just like it was on Ebay about a year ago. I remember watching it for a while. I remember it had a set neck, mahogany body and ebony fretboard which a rare combo for Fender. It seems like if it was a scam it wouldn't be advertised on Craig's list since mostly locals will want to come and check it out. Sounds like a nice guitar.

Some Set-Neck Strats were also shipped with either a Deluxe locking trem or an original Floyd Rose.

Thanks for the help. The advice about look before you buy is always good. I never buy guitars without looking at them first. I'm too paranoid.

Looks like the seller deleted all the meta words.

Nothing wrong with 9.5 strings. GHS, Ernie Ball, D'Addario all make em...
