Well....if the tuners on your guitar are of the PING variety (see pic)....then the Fender/Schaller locking tuners would be a direct drop in replacement.
I've done this mod to just about all of my axes!! They're fantastic!!

Another vote for the Schallers - had them on a few guitars now, and they work superbly, not to mention ease of fitting.

The Fender/Schaller lockers are a must.

Just be sure to get Fender-Shaller tuners. Schaller makes 6-in-a-row locking tuners that look similar and have the same mechanical dimensions but lack the locator pins that Fender guitars use. If it only says Schaller on the box and not Fender-Schaller don't buy them.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The Schaller/Fender locking tuners are the way to go. I recently installed them on my Strat. Great tuners. http://s1108.photobucket.com/albums/h40 ... ter006.jpg

Unfortunately the Schallers were not a "drop-in" for my '97 California Strat. I wound up ordering the Gotoh Vintage Locking Tuners from StewMac. They worked perfectly. One thing though, when I researched this, absolutely 99% of the people doing it themselves recommended buying replacement screws, the ones that come with the tuners are junk. I ordered new screws but wound up using the old ones, they worked fine and now I have plenty of spare screws. I also didn't swap out the old sleeves, I figured the least amount of invasion is best. Good luck!

Also Schaller makes locking tuners for G&L guitars that only have one placement pin. Fender Schaller tuners have two placement pins.

The tuners in the pic look like what I have on my '89 strat. What does PING mean?

PING (or maybe it's "Ping") is another manufacturer of hardware that Fender has been using since the early 2000s. The PING hardware in made somewhere in Asia - either Korea, Tiawan or China - but I don't remember exactly where. I'm pretty sure that the PING tuners use the same design specs as the Schaller tuners.
