Can anyone please tell me why JV always has a capo on the 4th or 5th fret of his guitar. I noticed it years ago when etv had a tribute to SRV with Clapton , Guy, and a bunch of other greats. I thought it was for that one performance but I've noticed over the years that he always has it there. Does he tune down then capo or what may be his reasoning? Just Curios

I have seen JV several times (including way back with Stevie) and never saw him using a capo. Maybe its something recent?? I did see a recent Jimmy Reed tribute with JV and did not notice the capo.

If you goto the Fender artist section you'll notice it in the picture of him playing his signature strat. Again the SRV tribute I saw him on was in the ninties, I remember because it was before I got married. The Strat Clapton was palying that night was white with Lace sensors, to kind of give you an idea of the time frame. I've made kind of a mental note since then and have noticed it other times as well. Never seen him live but I've heard his shows are a lot of fun

i think hes using it to remember wath key the song is in or something like that it seems to me that when the song goes in A he has it on the 5th fret 3rd for G and no capo when playing in E

In an interview with him i've read that he likes open strings when playing a song. When he capos in G he can use the open strings just like standard
tuning in E.

Thanks. that would actually make sense to me. I myself played in open G for a long time, even when not playing slide. I've never used a capo much so I guess the thought never crossed my mind but it makes good sense. Thanks again.
