Hi all,

I was wondering are USA Fender Stratocaster body shapes all the same through the decades, or are the contours different for different years. If so, what are the diffs?

Thanks.

Somewhere I remember seeing a better depiction, but this gives you an idea of how the contours have changed. It's missing the super-blocky, chunky contours of the later-70s Strats.

No. Over time the shape has changed (and sometimes pretty drasticly).

50s & 60s - Body contours were pretty consistant for mostly being made by hand.
Early 70s- Body contours were still pretty close to he 50s.
Late 70s- Body contours became pretty shollow.
80s & 90s- Body contours became more like the 50s, but the horns were a little flatter (not as rounded) as the 50s.
Y2K to present- Body contours returned to the style of the 50s.

Paris, I would agree for the most part...however, I would add that the exception would be the AVRI as that model is pretty close to the original 57's in which are the most curvy of all the bodies over the years...as for comparison, some models are more curvy than others today...as stated about the AVRI's vs say the American Standard models.

Sorry about. I was being pretty general about the bodies. Everything kind of got complicated in the early '80s with the introduction of other Strat models. Remember before that time period there were was only one Strat model. Now we have several.
