I have just picked up a Strat from the local classifieds. Serial Number E443863. Is there any way to date this guitar without taking the neck off?

It is black with black pickguard, it has 3 knobs, maple neck, and 2 string tees. I'm guessing 87-88 American Standard.

The best I can find online is the serial number was used between 84 & 88.

Would just like to be able to quote the stats for my guitar like you guys do.

Thanks.

It's an 84 neck. They still put those on the 87 American standards because they were left over after CBS sold out.

When I buy a guitar, first thing I do is take neck and pickguard off, or else it bothers me not to know every little details I can find.

More importantly, I am curious, how much did you pay?

Take a look under the pickguard. There are dates on the pots and maybe on the body or pickguard.
