My first post in the "Lounge". I'm looking for a period correct tolex or tweed case for my recently purchased MIJ 72 RI Strat. A few questions I have are since it has the CBS large headstock are the case dimensions different, and should the interior be poodle or satin velvet? Orange, I believe is the correct color. Will a new deluxe case accommodate, or do I need a specific size. Thanks for the help.

Black tolex with fender logo but note the differences in the logo.
If you can, see that the strat will actually fit correctly
The end padding on some cases is thicker than others and certainly can be an issue with the large headstock.
It may be impossible or at least very hard to get a case off the shelf to the exact specs and you may have to settle for the standard G & G black tolex case.
G & G could make one to your specs but it would be expensive.

I have the standard G&G tweed Strat case, and it fits my '70s Strat fine. No issues with the headstock. Same goes for my original '80s Fender tweed case.

Here are a couple of shots of cases. Probably very like the one you are after.

The interiors are different even though they are both fender G&G cases you'll notice the padding on the 69 is slightly thicker..



As a result until this case wears in, the fit is tight and the top tuner brushes against the padding. Not a big issue but it was what i was trying to refer to. I have seen the same issue with the tweed cases.
