So ive got an old strat from the 80s. And it seems to have a bad potentiometer on the volume pot. Its a little scratchy when turning it and only lets out sound on one spot. Is it just in a state of disrepair and needs to be turned vigorously? Or do i need to solder in a new pot?
P.S. All the soldering on the pot looks really good.

You could try a good electrical contact cleaner, spray a little into the pot and turn it several times or just replace it.

I had an extreme case resurrecting a 30+ year old "hybrid" bass, a Precision Bass with electrics from a long obsolete Ibanez Bass. There were two pots on the active circuit, both shot and I was having big problems sourcing replacements so I ended up dismantling them and physically cleaning the tracks with a cleaner and cotton buds. It worked, still going strong but not something I would recommend!

I actually tried that right after i posted and now it purrs like a kitten, I had to spray some in the pup selector too. Thank you very much for the info though! Im still going to have to resolder the input jack though, not sure what happened there but it needs some help. Posting pics soon.
