Impedance mostly. Quality is better than bells and whistles.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

FLUKE meters are no longer made in the USA. They are made in China. Extech makes a better meter for the money.

I've used a Fluke multimeter on automobile electrical/computer work and they can run around $100.00. As long as you have a meter with basic functions it will be accurate enough. Guitar wiring circuits are not extremely fine. I will probably get some disagreements on this but I'm using a $20.00 Radio Shack meter & it's all that's needed.

Your right, a $20.00 meter is all you need for working on guitars.

Here's an example of an under $20 multimeter that would be more than adequate for your needs:

http://www.adafruit.com/products/71

If you follow the link you'll notice that the company (Adafruit) selling this DMM has a tutorial describing how to use multimeters.

FWIW, I've purchased numerous products from Adafruit and have been pleased with their service (including time-to-ship).
