What exactly does it say on the headstock?

The serial number suggests 1981, and I don't believe Squier had their own line back then.
The Squier series was introduced in 1982.

It says "Fender stratocaster made in korea and then the serial number as well. Squire is not there anywhere.

I stand corrected.

S/E: The S and E serial number prefix Korean Squiers are from the late 1980s/early 1990s. S = Samick, E = Young Chang, E letter serial numbers were used on Young Chang's Fenix brand guitars.[4] The first number following the serial number prefix is the year.

The first guitars made in Korea are those with serial number written in silver E1 + 6 digits

For example

"E1 + 6 digits with silver serial = made by Young Chang in 1987-88.
"S9" = made by Samick in 1989.
"E0" = made by Sung-Eum in 1990.
"E1" with black serial = made by Sung-Eum in 1991.

Why it doesn't say Squier, I couldn't say.

So what is the quality of this guitar as compared to my MIM 2011 strat? And even if the serial number does not have a S and does not say squire could it still be a squire? :cry: i sure hope it is a regular strat and not a squire or have squire internals.

From what i can tell this is one of the early MIK's either made in japan then shipped to korea or made in korea with japanese parts. But I could really use some pro help here.

Well... I managed to find out for myself that it is a standard strat made during the mid to late eighties in the korean factory. There very rare as they were only made for a short time and only sold in asia. Not sure how it made its way over the pond but im glad it did.

I know this thread is a year old, but I just joined the forum, and was in search of similar information. I too have a "made in Korea" stratocaster without the squier tag and the serial number is E1047413.... Maple neck with skunk stripe and rosewood fret board. Gotoh tuners. Black string trees. Fender bridge and tremolo. Any ino would be great? Would love to find out the year it was made, etc.
