3 questions:
1) how do I remove the knob from the S1 switch without damaging it?
2) how do I lubricate the S1 switch - when I depress it, it gets stuck down.
3) what's a safe lubricant for the S1 switch?

Personally, I'd recommend just removing it like you would any other knob. Just keep you eye on the push button insert incase it falls out.

I wouldn't use any kind of lubricant as it will probably work its way down into the switch and cause you issues later on.

If it's sticking badly, remove the knob and take out the push button insert. Then, with some fine sand paper lightly sand the outside edge and then buff it with a cloth or even better whatever paper you have in your printer (trust me paper is more abrasive than you think!). Just make sure not to scuff the topside when sanding the edge.

That should have reduced the inserts circumference enough to free it up a bit.

The type that never finds it's way near you S-1 switch!

Hope this helps.

Andy

Thank you Andy! I'll try doing just this when I get back to my house.

mswope - A sticking S1 switch can be a sign that it is failing. I had a similar problem on my Deluxe Strat and found that the brass bar that connects the S1 button to the inner plunger of the pot had bent. The only way to fix it was to replace the pot. I took it to an authorized Fender repair center and they gave me the choice of replacing the S1 pot or just going with a standard volume pot. I didn't care for the S1 switching anyway so I went with the standard pot.
