obviously this is subjective but on average, how much of an allen wrench turn would one have to make to notice a subtle difference?

Rule of thumb is to make small adjustments. A quarter turn at a time.

Also never force it if it doesn't wanna turn. You don't want to break anything.

100% agree with RRR.
Also, anticipate several hours (even overnight) before you notice the affect.
It does take a while for the neck to conform.

Yes, it spells it all out in the set-up guide.
Good luck!

Sometimes a neck will respond slowly to truss rod adjustments, but more often than not, they respond instantly to even minor adjustments just fine. It can just take a day or so for the neck to fully settle to the adjustment, but again, more often than not, it responds instantly. 1/8 to 1/4 turn either way can make a good bit of difference in "feel" and to remove fret buzzes, because we are dealing with tolerances in thousandths of an inch! Very rarely would a neck need a full turn either way on a truss rod, but it might if you went from say an 8 gauge set of strings to a 13 gauge set LOL. If I am loosening the truss rod, I leave the guitar tuned to pitch. If I am to tighten the rod, I will either detune the strings, or at the least, pull the neck back by hand as I take out the slack with the allen wrench. If you forcefully tighten a truss rod, you could break it (not as easy as some would have you believe) but more than likely you will compress the wood behind the truss rod adjustment bolt washer.....meaning your rod has tightened fully but your neck didn't move cause you crushed the wood fibers! Again, these are worst case scenarios and it do have to really be an ape to mess up the neck. Common sense. Get a good, proper fitting allen wrench, and make slow, small adjustments without using He-man strength :)
