i read in the manual book, fender recommended that the strat bridge must have a gap between the tail of the bridge and body. What do you think 'bout it?

I think that's the hot setup for Strats, and required if you want to be able to produce a true vibrato. I "float" mine at factory spec all the time.

You'll have a little upbend when the tremolo is floating.
Mine is flush to the body with 5 springs (blocked tremolo).
Some people will have only downbend like EVH.

If Fender recommends that setting why question it ? I would think they know the best way to set the bridge up.

There are different ways to adjust a bridge, there is no ''right way''.
It's what YOU want, floating (old Style), flush or blocked like E.C.

I guess it`s a matter of personal choice. I`d rather play it the way Fender set it up.

... and don't forget to factor in the small machines like Tremsetter, Tremel-No, etc.

Unless a Fender bridge is fixed or blocked, they are all effectively floating.

Floating means that the string tension and the spring tension are equal and counteracting or cancelling each other.

Oh, and the factory spec for the bridge gap is 1/8" and I run with it.

What do you think of the Tremel-No?

Did you install the Tremsetter yourself? I've been very curious about that device. Is it really as good as it is advertised to be?

My bridge is also floating at the factory recommended 1/8". It accomodates a much smoother vibrato (modulation of pitch) because you can bend the pitch both up and down. If the bridge is flush to the body due to higher spring tension you'll only be able to pitch down. Plus you'll have to exert a lot of force to "divebomb".

Strictly preference, no big deal one way or the other. Fender just suggest that because it's a setup that will let you get the most out of the tremolo.
