Soft V refers to the shape of the back of the neck - if you cut a cross section it would look like a "V" with a rounded-off bottom. I believe the '69 shape was somewhere between a "C" shape and a "U" shape - at least when the CS was building their version of the '69 Strat they used a "U" shape.

All EC Strats have an active mid boost circuit that is powered by a 9V battery. The battery is found under the back plate - there is a small route in the edge of the cavity large enough for the battery.

When the battery dies completely, you will have no amplified sound at all. There may be some sort of scratchy warning sound from the strings before that as the battery reaches the end of its charge.

To prevent this, remove the instrument cable from your guitar to turn off the preamp, as the circuit is on when the jack is plugged in. Otherwise install an active/passive toggle switch.
