I am impressed with Sonny's rear Tele pickup assembly on his Strats. Has anyone seen a kit for this modification? I don't think one is available, but if there is one of you will know.

Just buy a Tele bridge and pickup assembly and have the body routed for the pickup and holes drilled for the string thru. You would have to modify your pickguard or have a custom one made.

one of his strats has the fast-track 1 humbucker mounted into a telecaster bridge plate.

I thank you for your info. On my budget I'll buy a decent upscale(used) Mexican made Strat then go to work. Having the Tele rear pup for the extreme twang/bite will give it a different Strat personality. I have a friend who routs very well.

Interesting.

I've seen Sonny play live dozens of times (4 times this year), and have met him on several occaisions, but I've never seen him play that Strat !

I've seen him play a Hardtail, a Lace pup in both bridge and neck, and a 'standard' CS, but never that one.

cheers!

In truth I considered the comment on my 16 month layover for an additional post, to be one of those non-guitar useless and probably not well intentioned posts.

I believe that Gultar Player did a cover story on him some two years or more back. There was some discussion about his setup. Best I can suggest is to check the online archives of the leading publications and see what you can find. If memory serves, what Landreth requires in order to achieve his sound playing 'behind the slide' as he does amount to quite a custom precision setup. I can't imagine that you could read it from a photo. Keep us posted on what you find.

Watch Sonny on "Crossroads 2010" DVD. If this response is beyond "The Fender Time Zone" rules: Thank God, I will never, ever know

Actually spent some time with Sonny before/after his show at the Rock N' Bowl in New Orleans three Sundays ago... 4/27/14.

He and his guitar Tech told me they're using straight off-the-shelf DiMarzio pickups for all his 'touring' Strats now.

cheers!
